Today, we had to take our screener assessment for reading. This is an assessment to help determine student strengths and weaknesses in reading.
In science, we continued our notes on maps using the digital textbook on the projector. Once again, because we are focusing on taking proper notes, this is a slow process to ensure students are practicing essential skills. Although it is slow now, it will save us a lot of time later.
We did not get to social studies notes because it was our first day of library. We spent time going over procedures and expectations. After, we went to the library, in which the class did VERY WELL. :) When it was all over, we did not have time to do notes, so we began language early.
For language, we worked on simple subjects and predicates. We did some practice, then a quick-write. We used our quick-write papers to find subjects and predicates in our own writing. Those papers were turned in at the end of class.
For math, we did our first lesson of the modules. I just want to let everyone know, that after meeting with our math coach yesterday, I plan on basing most of the daily work grades on effort because of the abstract nature of this style of teaching math. The assessments will count based on correct ability to complete the concepts, which will give us a good indication of what the student actual earns as a grade on report cards. Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns about this.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments.
Today's quote is from former president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, “Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.”
Have a great day!
