We gave students a quiz in math today and saw most of the class was failing. We decided to stop the quiz and use the opportunity to review the quiz and take notes. Students will be graded on the completion of their notes. We will hand their notes back to them on Monday along with a new quiz.
For social studies, we set a due date for our project. We will give the students until Thursday, March 8th. With the timeline we set for the other milestones in the project, this gives the students approximately a week to draw and label a map on a poster board. Any student who is not finished with their information or map sketch will not be given the opportunity to do it on a poster board.
In science, we discussed how camouflage is a structural adaptation and that it can be used in their animal creation. Students need to have 8 behavioral and 8 structural adaptations listed for their created animal. We encourage you to check with your child to see where they are on their adaptation assignment.
Today, we had several students read a couple of the reply emails they they received from their university that they contacted. All the students got to hear the expectations and requirements that colleges want to see in future students. We tasked all students to have their email written, checked by an adult, and sent by Sunday night. If students already emailed the place they wanted to inquire about, we told them to start planning their next 3 year steps to reach their goals.
We introduced students to a new type of poetry today: Lyric. We went over a few slides that should be put on the website soon. Students were tasked with finding a lyric poem and paste it into an assignment in google classroom. They also needed to write an explanation as to how they know the lyric is either a sonnet, elegy, or ode.
As always, if students use their time wisely in class, they should have little to nothing to take home. However, this is not the case for many students. We encourage you to go through their assignment with them. We have started writing in agendas at the end of the day. Students should have the assignments and due dates written in their agendas. Each student was given an agenda at the beginning of the school year. If they have lost it, then they need to figure out how to keep track of the assignments in class. A notebook will work just as well if kept organized.
Finally, we would like to leave you with a quote today from American elder statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army, Colin Powell, “Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence.”
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
IN THIS CLASS, IT IS NOT ABOUT WHAT WE KNOW, IT IS ABOUT WHAT WE DO WITH WHAT WE KNOW!
