Today, we finished all of our reading for The Red Pyramid in class. Tomorrow we will finish the book and begin working on the structural parts of the story. The class will have a test on Friday and the summaries for the book will be due when they turn their tests in.
We talked about 9/11 today during social studies. I showed some videos of the news coverage from that day and talked about the day in general. I also told the students that they may want to ask their parents about their experience for that day because every person I have ever discussed 9/11 with can tell me exactly how their day went.
We are also doing quite a bit of review of concepts. I really want the class to have a solid foundation of some of their skills that have been taught in previous grades before moving into anything that is more in depth. Our attention in math was on fractions today, which should help us with ratio tables. Our focus in language is pronouns and how to use them properly, because many students over use them, which makes their writing much less descriptive.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments.
Today’s quote is from journalist, Geraldine Brooks, in honor of those who were lost on this day 17 years ago, “September 11, 2001, revealed heroism in ordinary people who might have gone through their lives never called upon to demonstrate the extent of their courage”
Have a wonderful afternoon!
